Stewart A. Thigpen is the CEO and shareholder of Steve H. Powell & Company. Prior to assuming the role of CEO, Stewart was a director responsible for managing day to day operations of the Company. After graduating from Georgia College and State University with a BBA in Accounting, Stewart began his banking career in a community bank. After his entry into banking, Stewart got his start with Steve H. Powell & Company in January of 2000. Stewart rapidly progressed with the company and has filled various roles across the diverse base of financial institutions during his career. He specializes in large and complex institutions, GSEs, asset quality monitoring and review, due diligence assignments of all types and is also proficient in strategic planning.
Mr. Thigpen is a Certified Public Accountant. He is a current member of the Georgia Bankers Association credit committee. Stewart has been a presenter for the Georgia Society of CPAs, Alabama Bankers Association, and the Georgia Bankers Association. He also contributes to banking programs with the Department of Finance at Georgia Southern University. Outside of his role in the Company, Stewart served as Past President and member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Master 4-H Association. A native of Cochran, Georgia, Stewart currently resides in Statesboro, Georgia with his wife and two sons. |
Brad began his career at Steve H. Powell & Company in 2002 specializing in regulatory compliance review, consulting, and training for a wide range of financial institutions. In 2011 Brad was named a director where he was responsible for leading the Company’s Compliance Division, as well as assisting with strategic planning, business development and client relations. In 2022, he became a shareholder and President of the Company.
Brad has served as a featured speaker and panel member for numerous banking trade group sponsored seminars and events related to regulatory compliance matters throughout the Southeast. He has served as an instructor for the Georgia Banking Association sponsored Georgia Banking School and Compliance School at the University of Georgia, and he has contributed to banking programs with the Department of Finance at Georgia Southern University. Brad has also been quoted in national publications as a subject matter expert regarding regulatory compliance matters. Brad has a BBA in Finance from Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Georgia, is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM). Brad is originally from Macon, Georgia and currently resides in Statesboro, Georgia with his wife, son, and daughters. Brad is a member of First Baptist Church Statesboro where he has served on the Finance Committee. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, going to concerts, and keeping up with Georgia Southern University sports. |
Brian currently serves as the company’s Chief Financial Officer and is a shareholder. He is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a BBA in finance from the University of Georgia (’04) as well as a BBA in accounting from Georgia Southwestern State University (’18).
He began his career at Steve H Powell & Company in 2004 as a Financial Institution Specialist within the Company’s loan review division. He coordinates asset quality reviews, internal audits, and due diligence reviews for a diverse set of financial institution clients. His experience includes national and state-chartered community banks, savings banks, credit unions, and GSEs. Internally, Brian manages the companies IT and network resources and is involved in strategic planning for the company, recruitment, and staff training and development. Outside of his role with the company, Brian coaches youth soccer and is involved with Relay for Life. He resides in Statesboro, Ga with his wife, daughter, and son. |
Jeremy began his career at Steve H. Powell & Company in 2005 as a Financial Institution Specialist conducting regulatory compliance review, consulting, and training for financial institutions throughout the Southeast. Prior to joining the company, he worked in operations at a local community bank.
Through his tenure, Jeremy has filled various critical roles and he was named a director of the Company in 2015. In 2022, he became a shareholder and was named the Chief Operating Officer of the Compliance Division. In addition to assisting the Company with strategic planning, personnel, and client relations, his responsibilities include oversight of the Compliance Division’s daily operations, performance, scheduling, and client satisfaction. Jeremy fills a critical role in developing protocols for compliance reviews, training programs, and onboarding new Financial Institution Specialists. He also serves as an editor of the Company’s compliance blog, The Compliance Pipeline. Jeremy has a BBA in Finance from Georgia Southern University, is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM). Dave began his career at Steve H. Powell & Company in 2005 as a Financial Institution Specialist within the Company’s loan review division serving financial institutions throughout the Southeast. Prior to joining the Company, he worked in retail banking at a local community bank in Milledgeville, GA.
In 2022, Dave became a shareholder and currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the Company’s Loan Review Division. Dave specializes in asset quality monitoring and loan review services, and currently manages some of the Company’s largest and more complex clients. Additionally, Dave is instrumental in overseeing the Company’s Due Diligence services, assisting numerous financial institutions facilitate successful acquisitions. Dave has worked on a wide array of target acquisitions with total assets ranging from $30 million to well over $1 billion. Throughout his career with the Company, Dave has served many roles including development of policies and procedures, staff training and employee development, and strategic planning. He has also been featured as a speaker and panel moderator at financial institution trade group conferences. Dave earned his BBA in Economics from Georgia College & State University (Milledgeville, GA) in 2004 in addition to a BBA in Accounting from Georgia Southwestern State University (Americus, GA) in 2018. Dave was born and raised in Macon, GA and currently resides in Statesboro, GA with his wife and daughter. |
James began his career at Steve H. Powell & Company in 2006 as a Financial Institution Specialist specializing in regulatory compliance review, consulting, and training for financial institutions throughout the Southeast. Prior to working with Steve H. Powell & Company, James worked for a regional CPA firm in Georgia specializing in Financial Institutions.
James was named Senior Vice President of Steve H. Powell & Company in 2022 and became a shareholder of the company as of January 1, 2024. James fills various roles that include assisting in the oversight of compliance operations, managing client relationships and business development. He fills a critical role in developing audit programs for compliance reviews and onboarding of new Financial Institution Specialists. He is responsible for the development and implementation of regulatory compliance policies and procedures for a large segment of the Company’s clients. James also serves as an editor of the company’s compliance blog, The Compliance Pipeline. James has served as a speaker for numerous banking trade group sponsored seminars and events related to regulatory compliance matters. He is currently a member of the Georgia Bankers Association compliance committee and a member of the Georgia Bankers Association compliance school board.
